OK this is something I have never been able to master, and I have been driving for 20 years give or take now. Anyone else have the same problem? |

Me too, I could never figure it out and just don't even bother with it. Most of the time I don't anyway. |

The only time that I have ever parallel parked was for my initial driver's test. That is also the only time I have ever practiced it.
I think that overall, parallel parking is quite impractical, especially if you are trying to do so on a busy street! You just back up traffic more, and it isn't even worth it. |

A lot of people are intimidated by parallel parking. Two steps can help to resolve this: The first is to understand the geometry so you know exactly what is going on and how to do it properly.
The other part is simply to practice it in a controled environment and with other people for help and support. Gradually advance into more complex and tight spaces, as described in this thread. |

Unless one parallel parks regularly, one gets out of practice and loses the ability to do it well. At one time, I was very good at it but now I rarely have any reason to. |
