I find I’ve done some of my best thinking while driving. My first Air Force assignment, I would often say to my patients, “I had this idea [for treatment activities] driving home from work yesterday.” They would jokingly say “Sometimes I wish you lived on base.” At my last assignment (I retired a year ago), I was known to successfully treat very complex cases. I would often let patients know my initial impressions were sometimes preliminary, to be finalized after I drove on them a bit. |

I agree. if only I could pen down all the thoughts I've had while driving places (not to mention getting stuck in jams!) I'd have a few novels out by now! |

mow you are so right! I've had fleeting thoughts about the "what ifs" of hooking my brain up to transcription. But then next I'd be wanting an implimentation team for my ideas. It seems I just like the ideas and thinking part! |

For me driving places is one time I plan out my whole day sometimes....from grocery lists, to calls I need to make... down to my very personal life! It's a wonder I manage to get any driving done in the first place! |

I find driving to be a good time for me to observer people. People I see as I pass them on the way to where I'm going. I know I get to see just little bits and pieces of their personalities. But some time the drama and comedy, I observe, are better than the movies. |

Of course i always see the comedy side of the people who drive on road. It makes me relax my mind and concentrate on my driving |

My first accident happened because I was not focused on driving. I totalled a classic musclecar. I did not have another mental distraction accident, but I did miss turns and waste gas. Mental distraction can be as dangerous as talking on a cellphone, without the visual indicator to warn other drivers, but what I call distraction others may call multitasking. I know I'm a poor multitasker, so that may be a judgement call of personal ability. |
